The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing skyrockets to $398,000,000

The Mega Millions lottery jackpot has jumped up to $398,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$197.9 million) for the next drawing in the multistate lottery game Friday night. The grand prize amount has been carried over because no one matched all 5 white ball numbers and the Mega Ball number to take the $374,000,000 grand prize Tuesday night. The numbers drawn Tuesday night, August 6th, 2024 were 23, 29, 36, 61, 70 with Mega Ball number 22 and Megaplier x4.

While the grand prize was not hit Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with large winnings. There was a single lucky ticket matched all five numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) sold in OH will collect $250,000 cash each.

Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 12 tickets that matched 4 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 327 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $150. 859 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $150.

With nine different ways to win, there were 1,428,590 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 drawing.

Mega Millions is a consortium associated with 44 state lotteries. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players through prize winnings. Around 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Around 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. The overall chances of winning are about 1 to 14. The odds of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 258,890,850. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $12,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 26 equal annual payments. Winners may select one lump sum cash payout instead.
